Forehand Backswing

In this WE Play Pickleball blog we are going to explain the importance of a shorter forehand backswing:

Why am I talking about this? Because I think this is very important for a new player to quickly get on the path to hitting more consistent shots!

A shorter backswing allows YOU to have more control over your shots and react faster to your opponent's shots. It also reduces the risk of overhitting or hitting the ball out of bounds.

The best forehand technique (in my opinion) especially for the beginner player is to have a compact backswing and a forward swing that ends at shoulder height.

I highly encourage all my students to work on having a shorter backswing: You will want to take some time and practice hitting forehand shots with a shorter backswing. Start by taking the paddle back to waist height and gradually work towards a more compact backswing.

I recommend working with a partner when you are practicing on this technique so they can provide feedback. And the reality is if you want to get better it will be all about Practice, practice, practice: You will have to hit alot of forehand shots with a shorter backswing until it becomes second nature.

Really try to incorporate the shorter backswing into your game play and be mindful of your technique during matches.

Let me know if this helps

See you on the Courts…
