The Grip for Beginners

For a beginner pickleball player, it's best to start with a basic grip that provides good control and comfort. The most common grip used by beginners is the "continental grip."

A big reason we want beginners using this grip is it's pretty easy to learn and you can help you get on the court with confidence quickly.

To hold the continental grip:

Hold the paddle in your non-dominant hand with the face of the paddle perpendicular to the ground.

Place the bottom of your hand on the handle with your thumb pointing straight up toward the paddle face.

Wrap your fingers around the handle, making sure your index finger is slightly separated from the other fingers.

Relax your grip so that you're holding the paddle with a loose, comfortable grip.

The continental grip is a versatile grip that allows for good control and spin on the ball, making it a good choice for beginners.

As you progress and become more comfortable with the game, you can experiment with other grips to see which one works best for you.
